Brightside Trust — Milbrook County

Nobody in Milbrook County eats dinner alone.

Six days a week our volunteers deliver a hot meal and stay to talk — to 1,860 homebound seniors who'd otherwise spend the evening by themselves. Last year we didn't miss a single route.

Order tickets and a last cup of coffee on the kitchen counter before the Tuesday route.

Marcus fills his thermos at the kitchen counter before heading out on Route 6.

One route, one story

Three years, 1,140 visits, one standing Tuesday lunch date.

Dorothy Odom is 84 and has lived alone on Willow Street since her husband, Raymond, passed in 2019. She stopped driving two years ago, and her nearest family is four hours away in Dayton.

Marcus Webb has knocked on her door every Tuesday and Thursday for three years. He brings a hot lunch, a quick check of her blood pressure log, and — most weeks — the only conversation she'll have that day. Marcus figures he's made over 1,140 stops on Route 6 since he started. Dorothy keeps count too, in a notebook by the door.

"He stays for eleven minutes on a good day. I've timed it. It's the best eleven minutes of my Tuesday."

— Dorothy Odom, Route 6

Route 6 has run without a missed delivery since March 2022.
